Ensayo Rains of Faith and Sorrow GU.jpg

Rains over Faith and Sorrow is a small mirror in which our reality and our history as humanity are reflected through music. Centuries of marginalization and subjugation have left deep and sometimes, dark imprints on our collective memories. But music has the power to transform all that may appear desolate and disconsolate, into a celebration of mankind’s passion and strength in its battle against daunting adversities.

On the one hand, the album places us in medieval Europe, in which the Codex Buranus (S. XII-XIII) conveys the life and truth of those who remained marginalized in society. The boldness, courage and intensity of these songs express their strength. On the other hand, medieval monastic singing proclaims charity through the pure and simple works composed by the Doctor of the Church, Hildegard V. Bingen (S. XII) as well as by other medieval poems that also evoke charity as the axis of human integrity and unity. Entering the colonial Spanish-American period, indigenism and slavery raise their voices in the Peruvian Codex of Martinez Compañón (S. XVIII) and in the work of the Spanish Juan de Arañés (S. XVII).
